Reopening of Hearst Castle after a two year remodel

Whether our guests are traveling from Southern California (SoCal) to Fairview Manor B&B or leaving us and heading south......You can't help but want to travel the infamous Coastal Highway to Hearst Castle.

It is hard to imagine the opulence of Hearst Castle without visiting at least once. Hearst held nothing back in the creation of the Castle. Julia Morgans' design was brilliant. The attention to detail, the marble that was purchased in Italy and then sent by boat, to be loaded and trekked up the 5 miles to the Castle, fabulous! The water that was supplied to the Castle from the other side of the Mountain range, genius. Though the animals are long gone, Hearst's private zoo must have been a marvel.

If you have the opportunity to visit or revisit Hearst Castle, make it so!

Spring, Glorious Spring!

Springtime has finally arrived in the Santa Cruz Mountains! Not only are the flowers blooming and the trees spreading but the "babies" are also here. Watching the baby Blue Jays hop from tree to tree is great. Years ago we built nesting boxes under the eaves and they are full of activity.

Murphy enjoys watching the baby squirrels chase each other around the lawn. She is a bit too old to be chasing after them now. So she is content to watch from a distance,  running after each others' tails. It seems like they have developed their own game of tag.

April will also bring on a new batch of fawns. In just a few more weeks they will be following their moms out on the meadow. They all seem to enjoy the mountain plums that fall. It is great for me, less raking to do!

The warmth of the summer will soon be here, so now is a great time to enjoy our Glorious Spring!
